Recycling article a help to residents

I read the article Saturday in the Burbank Leader about the recycling center ("Council talks trash, recycling"). It was very interesting and helpful. I know that a lot of people are confused about what kinds of items are accepted at the center and thought that may be a good follow-up to this article. I know the city sends something every year in the mail, but I know from talking to other people/parents that they are still confused about what plastics can go in especially. For example, we ordered some food in last night that came in plastic No. 6 and we so wanted to recycle it, but I do not know if you would accept it at the curb, or would we need to bring it to the center, or does the center not take it at all?

Anyway, that is just one example. I think it would be important to add to the article that if we are putting in stuff that the recycling center does not accept, what does that mean? Does that mean we are wasting human resource time sorting it out — that there is a cost to the city for this? What happens to all that extra stuff?

Burbank

Characterization is completely off mark

In a letter published in the Aug. 30 Burbank Leader, Alfred Aboulsaad ("Two very different visions for the city's leaders," Community Commentary, Aug. 23) began another personal attack on Councilman David Gordon with the following false statement: "The Burbank that it seems David Gordon and his faithful supporters such as Eden Rosen and Eric Michael Cap envision is one void of art in public places, community outreach or public transportation. They would prefer a Burbank without a Starlight Bowl, an empty downtown storefront, where Urban Outfitters now lives, one where affordable housing is not a concern and where middle- and high-school conflict-resolution programs would be gutted."

Those of you who know me, including Gordon, know that nothing could be further from the truth. My family and I support the Starlight Bowl and attended the last three season shows including The Burbank Philharmonic and Warner Bros.-sponsored screening of "Ant Bully." We shop in downtown Burbank and eat at local restaurants every week. We worship in Burbank (Calvary at The Colony Theater) and have attended and enjoyed numerous community events over the years; from downtown Burbank concerts and the Easter Eggsplosion to Burbank of Parade and National Night Out.
