Ballet students take honors at national competition
The Burbank School of the Ballet students continues to grow and its students and have become formidable competitors at the national level.
During the weekend of Oct. 13, Lisa Sutton, the school's founder and artistic director, accompanied four of her students to New York City to attend the final round of competition of the National Performance Awards where each competed in their respective age/skill category. All four returned with high honors for their achievement.
Caitlynne Leary, 11, was awarded runner up (second place) in level 4.
Dani Ramirez, 11, also achieved runner-up status (second place) in level 5.
Vanessa Alschuler, 12, achieved first place in level 6 for which she received $100 and a pair of pointe shoes from Grishko.
Natalie Krakirian, 13, achieved first place in level 9 for which she received $300 and two pairs of pointe shoes from Gaynor Minden. Natalie also received the most prestigious award "Top Competitor" from Pointe Magazine for which she received a check for $100.
During their visit to New York, the aspiring dancers visited the prestigious dance studio Steps on Broadway and took part in a Master Dance class taught by international dance master teacher, David Howard.
