Airport development appealed

The Planning Board finds by 3-2 margin that a proposed airplane hanger development may violate the city's zoning codes.

The issue relates to the Burbank community's sensitivity to airport expansion. In this case, concerns over zoning discrepancies exposed a rather troubling grey area in this particular project, Board Chairman Gregory Jackson said.

"There's a lot of suspicion in Burbank over the airport and I'm not necessarily in that camp that views everything that happens as a conspiracy," he said. "But I do, after reviewing this, have some concerns. Maybe the word 'in cahoots' might be a little too harsh, but I think we have been working hand-in-hand with the Airport Authority on this to make a square peg [fit] into a round hole. And I don't think that's in good faith."

The project applicant has 15 days to appeal the Planning Board's decision to the City Council, Forbes said. If no appeal is filed, the ruling stands.
