Attending the event were Burbank government officials, students, teachers, Lions and parents. This year's theme was "Celebrate Peace," and youth were encouraged to express their views on what peace means to them. The contest was established by Lions Clubs International to promote the awareness of world peace internationally among youth.

For the past 11 years, the Burbank Lions Club has sponsored the local middle schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank for this competition.

Students receiving this year's first-level winner are: John Muir Middle School — Rachele Lazo; Jordan Middle School — Ashley Zipperman, Luther Burbank Middle School — Elijah Espada, and Boys and Girls Club of Burbank — Vanessa Chelebyan.

These winners now have a chance to compete for one grand prize of $2,500 and 23 merit awards of $500. In addition, the grand prizewinner will receive a trip with a family member to New York City.
