Burbank City Council Meeting Preview

January 06, 2007

MTA PROJECTS

The council will consider a request from the Community Development Department to submit grant applications to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for five transportation-related projects. City staffers have already prepared application papers, targeting potential programs that align with long-term transportation goals of the city.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If city officials were awarded grant proceeds, the funds would be put toward several projects, including plans to upgrade traffic signals on four main streets in Burbank, constructing a 3-mile bike path on San Fernando Boulevard and purchasing additional vehicles for the Burbank Bus fleet.

CADET REQUIREMENTS

The council will consider a resolution that would give the Burbank Police Department the ability to recruit high-school seniors as police cadets during the spring. The resolution would also require that applicants have a basic knowledge of law enforcement and applicable laws.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Spring recruitment of high-school seniors would allow the department more time to conduct an extensive hiring and background check process during the summer. Then in the fall, the accepted candidates would be able to take up their positions as cadets while they are also enrolling in accredited college institutions.
