Schiff was also appointed to the Courts, Internet and Intellectual Property Subcommittee during the House Judiciary Committee's selection process on Tuesday.
Schiff's district includes media and film companies like Warner Bros. and NBC, as well as film post-production and music companies, where the Internet and intellectual property are large factors.
The appointment will give him a chance to work with his colleagues to improve copyright protections and cut down on piracy worldwide, he said.
Schiff also serves on the House Appropriations Committee, as well as the subcommittee on the State Department, Foreign Operations and Related Program, and the subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science.
During the last congressional session, Schiff served on the Intellectual Property Subcommittee.
