Fact: The location of a terminal building or other structures on an airport does not determine the direction of takeoffs or landings at the airport. Wind direction and velocity is the major consideration the tower uses to select the runway for use. In addition to wind direction, noise abatement procedures, weather and approach hazards will also be considered by the Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control authorities at the airport to determine the proper runway to be used.
Relocating the terminal building with the same amount of gates we have now does not expand the airport, it only makes it safer pursuant to the FAA's design standards because the present terminal location is too close to the runway for our modern jet aircraft.
Pursuant to the printout from the Jeppesen Manual chart (plate) for the Burbank Airport, I drew the terminal to be in the B6 area, and found that it is safely away from all the runways because of the additional acreage. What would you prefer, fly out of Burbank or fly out of LAX?
