Theaters nominated for drama critics awards

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles and Orange County theater for 2006.

The Margaret Harford Award for sustained excellence in theater will be awarded to the Troubadour Theater Company. The award is accompanied by a $500 check funded by the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Nominated for best Production is "A Man of No Importance," Jill Townsend, Musical Theatre Guild, at the Alex Theatre; T.H. McCulloh Award for Revival, "A Touch of the Poet," A Noise Within; Direction, Nick DeGruccio, "Beehive," Valley Musical Theatre at the El Portal Theatre; Musical Direction, Steven Smith, "A Man of No Importance," Musical Theatre Guild at The Alex Theatre.

More nominations are Musical Direction, Steven Smith, "A Man of No Importance," Musical Theatre Guild at the Alex Theatre; Musical Score, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, "A Man of No Importance," Musical Theatre Guild at the Alex Theatre; Lead Performance, Reece Holland, "A Man of No Importance," Musical Theatre Guild at the Alex Theatre and Erica Tazel "I have Before Me a Remarkable Document Give to Me By a Young Lady from Rwanda," Colony Theatre.

More nominations are Featured Performance, Barry Lynch, "Dockers," Theatre Banshee; Ensemble Performance, "Dockers," Theatre Banshee; Lighting Design, Clifton Taylor, "Jay Johnson: The Two & Only!" the Colony Theatre; and Solo Performance, Jay Johnson, "Jay Johnson: The Two & Only!" Colony Theatre.

The 38th annual awards ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m. March 19 at the El Portal Theatre, 5269 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a catered reception and silent auction. Tickets are $35 and can be reserved at www.ladramacriticscircle.com.

Graduates from basic military training

Air Force Airman Arron Maniego has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Alan Dizon, of Burbank. Maniego is a 2006 graduate of Burbank High School.
