Someone should tell a few people that women, or at least most women in this day and age, think for themselves. Father does not know best anymore. Mother has a brain of her own and uses it. She reads and doesn't have to ask her husband what to think or how to vote. She's too busy running companies and corporations.

Recently, I have read several letters in the Burbank Leader and heard a number of speakers reference their concerns that Carolyn and Phil Berlin would be a danger if elected to the Burbank City Council. That they would be voting the same on all issues all the time. As a woman, I was angered. If I were a man, I would have been angered, too. Just because you are married doesn't mean you think alike on all issues all the time.

My husband and I have been married for more than 25 years. We differ on many issues: religion and politics being two of the biggest. To even suggest that he would dictate how I would vote, or vice versa, is offensive.

I can tell you that at coffee one morning, the spouse of one of the other candidates running for City Council told me that they wished their spouse was not running for office. Now it seems to me that this married couple seems to think for themselves. They are two individuals with two points of view. Can't we give the Berlins the same courtesy?
