SHOPPING CARTS
The council continued a public hearing on a potential ordinance governing stray shopping carts in order to reserve more time for a hearing on a proposed Whole Foods Market.
The purpose of a shopping cart ordinance would be to relieve urban blight by coming up with a strategy to corral shopping carts that litter the city.
WHAT IT MEANS
Though the council rejected an August 2005 shopping cart ordinance, city staffers have monitored the effectiveness of a similar ordinance in Glendale, which was implemented in January 2006.
Insight into Glendale's situation may lead the council to adopt a similar policy. The continued hearing is scheduled to take place on March 20.
