Burbank City Council Meeting Preview

March 10, 2007

WHOLE FOODS PROPOSAL

The council will consider a resolution denying a proposed Whole Foods Market on Main Street and Alameda Avenue in the Rancho District.

The council has already voted 3-2 to direct the city attorney to draw up the resolution denying the plan, saying the size of the project was not compatible with the surrounding neighborhood. But the project developer has submitted a letter to the city council asking council members to consider a smaller, 40,000-square-foot project before voting to officially reject the project.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council has sole discretion over whether to revisit the issue and open it up again to the public hearing process. If the council were to agree to consider the 40,000-square-foot project, the developer would submit project design plans and the public would have a chance to weigh in on the newest proposal.

ELECTION RETURNS

The council will vote on a resolution to accept the vote count from the Feb. 20 primary election. Candidates Gary Bric, Anja Reinke, Carolyn Berlin and Philip Berlin finished in the top four of a pool of seven candidates and will advance to the general election in April. Those results were tabulated by the Burbank City Clerk's office and certified by the county of Los Angeles.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Adopting the resolution will formally declare the council's acceptance of the election results, putting the four candidates on the upcoming general election ballot. School Board candidates Roberta Reynolds, Ted Bunch and Dave Kemp, who were running unopposed for three open seats, will not appear on the general election ballot because they all obtained a simple majority vote in the primary.
