SHOPPING CART ORDINANCE
The council is schedule to take a second vote on an ordinance that aims to corral abandoned shopping carts in the city.
If retailers are found to have five shopping carts off store grounds during a 24-hour period, they are required to develop a mechanism for containing their carts. The ordinance does not specify how carts should be contained, allowing retailers to choose from a variety of systems.
WHAT TO EXPECT
After gaining the full support of the council at its March 20 meeting, the ordinance will likely pass.
SECONDHAND SMOKE ORDINANCE
The council will consider an ordinance that would prohibit smoking of tobacco products in some outdoor areas in Burbank. The move is an attempt to reduce the negative effects of second-hand smoke on public health.
As proposed, the ordinance would prohibit smoking in the following areas in Burbank: all city facilities and parks; all pedestrian areas of Downtown Burbank; the Chandler Bikeway; restaurant outdoor dining areas; outdoor service areas, such as ATMs, car washes and valet pick-up stations; outdoor gatherings such as concerts, demonstrations and sporting events; public transit stations; outdoor shopping areas; elevators; and within 20 feet of any door or window.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The council can choose to approve the ordinance as recommended, or make changes to its provisions.
