Burbank City Council Meeting Wrap-up

RIVERSIDE MIXED-USE PROJECT

The council approved the development permit for a three-story, mixed-use building on the 3900 block of Riverside Drive in the Media District West District. The approximately 7,600-square-foot building will house street-level retail space and eight residential units on two stories.

WHAT IT MEANS

The council's approval of the project came after city staff's recommendation that the building would positively impact the neighborhood, encouraging pedestrian activity as well as furnishing Media District employees with housing opportunities.

SHOPPING CART ORDINANCE

The council codified an ordinance designed to corral abandoned shopping carts on city streets. City records show that between 400 and 500 stray shopping carts litter city streets on a daily basis.

WHAT IT MEANS

Retailers will not have to put mechanisms into place to keep carts on store grounds immediately.

A containment system will only have to be initiated if the retailer is convicted of having five carts off of store grounds during a 24-hour period.
