CV just too talented, 10-0

GLENDALE — With a suddenly torrid offense and overwhelming pitching staff, it's no wonder the Crescenta Valley High baseball team has feasted on its most recent competition.

Ask Burbank High Coach Bob Hart, who watched Crescenta Valley post a 10-0 Pacific League victory against Burbank on Wednesday night at Stengel Field. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Falcons (19-2, 10-1 in league) made believers out of him.

"They are a well-coached team with lots of talent," said Hart, whose team suffered a 9-0 home loss to the Falcons on March 20. "They have a prototype lead-off hitter.

"They've got some guys who can hit."

Crescenta Valley — ranked No. 6 in CIF Southern Section Division II — won its 13th consecutive contest since suffering a 3-2 loss to Burroughs on March 23. Eight of those victories were shutouts, including the last three in which CV has combined to outscore opponents, 29-0.

The Falcons, who have won or shared the league championship for the past five seasons, appear to be clicking in all facets of the game.

They scored three runs in the first, two in the second and four in the third to build a 9-0 lead against Burbank starting pitcher Anthony Gianelli (0-2). The freshman right-hander, who was called up in late-April from the school's junior varsity team, allowed the leadoff batter to reach base in the first three innings.
