Fire Department opens its doors

The Burbank Fire Department will host its annual Fire Service day at the Fire and Police Headquarters from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The event will feature tours of the fire house, a demonstration of a Jaws of Life vehicle extraction and a display of the Department's new hazardous materials vehicle.

Crews from Warner Bros., Disney Corp. and Bob Hope Airport fire will also be on hand, as well as various hospitals and burn foundations.

Food, balloons and photo opportunities for children to pose with fire equipment and special guest characters.

Earlier in the day the Burbank Fire Department will host a YMCA pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Fire Department headquarters is located at 311 Orange Grove Ave.

DUI checkpoint nets arrest and citations

A Burbank Police Department driver checkpoint on Saturday turned up one driving under the influence arrest and multiple additional citations.

Of 1,280 drivers screened at Glenoaks Boulevard and Orange Grove Avenue, one man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and one citation was issued for possession of an opened alcoholic container.

Officers also handed out 15 citations for driving infractions and two misdemeanor citations were issued for driver's license related violations.

One vehicle was impounded from a driver who was driving on a suspended license.
