"This is awesome," Burroughs Coach John Peebles about the two Indians runners. "They are both excited by their performances and the opportunity to race at CIF finals on Saturday. They ran great."

Chris Morris was first alternate in the boys' 400 (50.35), but he found out Tuesday that there was a scratch in his race and he will be running Saturday.

Burroughs also has two other alternates, who will get the chance to compete if a qualifying athlete drops out. Taryn Campos is the second alternate in the girls 200 (25.78) and first alternate in the 400 (59.80) and Martinez is the second alternate in the 3,200 (11:18.89).

Burbank received a fine effort from Dennis O'Dea in the triple jump, as his 43 feet 9 1/4 effort was good for sixth.

Bellarmine-Jefferson's Gabi Gonzalez qualified sixth in the girls' 800 (2:25.01)

Burbank's athletes who didn't make the cut were Ryan Williams in the boys' 3,200 (9:48.02), Izzy Soto in the boys' triple jump (41-9), Jordan Sanders in the boys' shot put (49-5 1/2 ) and Mehran Goorabian in the boys' discus (111-9).

SWIMMING

CIF Southern Section finals: Following a 10-year drought at the CIF Southern Section Swimming and Diving Championships, Burbank High sent four boys to Saturday's Division II meet at Long Beach's Belmont Plaza pool.

The Bulldogs 400-yard freestyle relay team of David Nelson, Marc Anunta, Greg Fields and Aram Simonian finished sixth in the eight-team field of the consolation heat with a time of 3 minutes, 18.54 seconds, after qualifying with a time of 3:19.13.
