New operator buys retirement hotel

Burbank Gardens Retirement Hotel has been bought by VinCal Senior Housing, LLC, a Newport Beach-based senior housing operator.

The eight-story, 115,000-square-foot retirement hotel sold for $12.5 million. It has two underground parking structures and was built in the 1980's at 2721 Willow St.

It was vacated to be upgraded in late January. The then 79 occupants of the hotel were given a 60-day notice to vacate after the family-owned business cited slumping revenues as their reason for closing.

The previous owners, Dino Clarizio and his two brothers, indicated that the hotel was in need of numerous repairs when it closed in January.

The new hotel should provide residents with updated boarding and health care services on a month-to-month basis.

VinCal Senior Housing, LLC, has begun upgrades on the property and the project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2008.
