Burbank City Council Meeting Preview

June 09, 2007

BUDGET HEARING

The council will hold a hearing on Tuesday to give the public a chance to provide input regarding the 2007-08 fiscal budget.

After about a month of council study sessions, staffers are putting the budget before residents in its proposed form.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Projected revenue growth is enabling the city to reinstate programs that were curtailed by past budget cuts, as well as fund a variety of new programs.

Increased funds from sales, property and utility taxes are largely to credit for the growth.

At the conclusion of the hearing, the budget will go up for council approval — which can be achieved by a majority vote.

BURBANK HOUSING CORPORATION

The council will listen to a report on a forthcoming financial and operational audit of the Burbank Housing Corp., which purchases and renovates properties for affordable housing.

The council ordered a full-scale audit of Burbank Housing Corp., after information was brought to light regarding a recent purchase that resulted in a significant profit for the seller. In addition, concerns were raised regarding the corporation' management practices.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council established a subcommittee to set the scope of the audit. The subcommittee's recommendations will be reported to the council on Tuesday for approval.
