Tony Calascibetta was honored for his work with English-as-a-Second-Language classes at the Burbank Adult School and assistance with the instruction of literacy skills, and previous volunteer work with Burbank Unified District schools.
Pat Gafford was honored for her tutoring work with children in the "Ready to Read" Program, and her previous work at the Burbank YMCA, Burbank Chorale and Burbank Heritage Commission.
Lydia Thomas was honored for her work with Burbank nutrition services, her church, Neighborhood Watch Program and local schools.
Burbank's recipient of the County of Los Angeles Outstanding Older American Award went to Leonard Barach for his volunteer work with the Bank Day program and handyman work at Providencia Elementary School, as well as for his help in the rebuilding of the hurricane-stricken areas of the country.
BUSINESS WOMEN'S MEMBER NAMED WOMAN OF YEAR
Members of the Verdugo-Glen Chapter of the American Business Women's Assn. have named Donna Hempel as the 2007-08 Woman of the Year.
She was Verdugo-Glen's Woman of the Year in 2005-06, but for her service to the chapter and to the association, the group is honoring her again.
Hempel joined the association in 2001 and immediately got involved. Through the years, she has served on the Roster Membership, Fashion Show, Ways & Means, Anniversary Night, Nominating and Associate Night committees.
