"I know now that is not going to happen, and I am no longer a coach at Burroughs."
Schepperle said he was called into a meeting with Burroughs Assistant Principal of Athletics and Academics Jay Gudzin and co-Athletic Director Marty Garrison a few weeks ago. In the meeting, Schepperle said he was told that he was being removed as coach.
He also said the administrators gave him the opportunity to step down and resign or be fired. Faced with the decision, Schepperle said he felt uncomfortable resigning.
"If I resign, it looks like I'm turning my back on the program, on the players and on everyone who has supported me," Schepperle said. "I just couldn't do that.
"I was surprised and hurt when I was told that I wasn't going to be returning. It's something that I just didn't expect. I'm really crushed."
After meeting with Gudzin and Garrison, Schepperle requested a conference with Burroughs Principal Emilio Urioste.
Urioste wouldn't go into the specifics of Schepperle's ouster, but did comment on the situation.
"We are looking for new leadership, and that's about it," he said. "I really didn't go into specifics about it with [Schepperle] … it's just regrettable that it has to go in this direction now."
The former coach has formulated an idea of why he was let go. Schepperle said he was shown e-mails by Gudzin that were sent by parents of current Indians players. Those parents were not happy with Schepperle's coaching and the way he was running the program.
"It was just some parents who just didn't like what I was doing," Schepperle said. "But you have parents like that in any program.
"I just think the administration buckled under the pressure of a few parents, and that's just not right. I feel like I've been railroaded. It's just not fair."
Schepperle leaves the program after leading the Indians varsity team to a winning record in 2007.
