Schafer, who will be a sophomore next season, was a pitcher/utility player for the Bulldogs and earned first-team All-Pacific League honors in 2007. She batted .397 (29 for 73) with 14 runs batted in, 10 runs scored, three triples and a home run. In league, she hit .541.
Peraza was a force in the circle for Burbank, earning all-league first-team honors. She compiled a 14-7 record and had a 0.88 earned-run average with 245 strikeouts and 38 walks in 135 innings. She was even more overpowering in league, boasting a 0.31 ERA with 142 strikeouts. She also notched 24 strikeouts in two playoff games.
Tubert gets taste of tough competition at national event: Just qualifying for the 2007 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship was an accomplishment for Burroughs High's Emily Tubert.
Although the Indians athlete — who will be a sophomore in the fall — wasn't able to advance past stroke play in the event that concluded Saturday, she was able to gain a lot of valuable experience at the tournament held at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash.
In the first round of the biggest tournament in the nation, Tubert battled nerves a finished with a nine-over-par 81. She had nine pars, one birdie, six bogeys and two double-bogeys.
On the second day, Tubert, 15, improved, firing a four-over-par 76. In the round she had nine pars, three birdies and three bogeys. However, what really hurt her was shooting a quadruple-bogey 9 on the par-five 11th hole. She was one under on the front nine before struggling on the back nine.
The tournament was won by Kristen Park, 14, of Buena Park. She defeated Ayako Kaneko of Honolulu, 4 and 3, in match play to notch the title.
