Lockheed Federal Credit Union employees donated blood and cellphones to the American Red Cross on Tuesday in remembrance of Sept. 11.

They were able to recover 60 usable blood donations from 52 donors, said Alethia Calagias, community relations specialist at Lockheed Federal Credit Union.

The Red Cross collected more than 30 phones. The credit union, based in Burbank, has hosted blood drives for more than seven years.

Donated phones will benefit people who cannot afford them for normal service but will carry them to make emergency 911 calls. Most phones are enabled to make 911 calls even if service is not active.
