Southwest starts staggered boarding

Southwest Airlines will change its boarding procedures Thursday, Burbank-Glendale- Pasadena Airport Authority Commissioner Don Brown said.

“Right now, they have three areas — A, B and C — where people are directed to line up prior to boarding,” he said.

With the changes, there will be five slots in those three lines that coincide with the time slot at which people arrive, he said.

“For example, if you arrive at 8 a.m. for a 9 o’clock flight, you’ll get the earliest time slot, A1,” he said. “The later you get there, the later the slot.”

The change will allow people to show up at the gate during their time slot instead of waiting around, Brown said.

The change will affect all of Southwest’s 64 locations nationwide, Brown said.
