Big Game Preview

November 07, 2007

• WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

• WHERE: Memorial Field.

• RECORDS: The Indians and Bulldogs are both 3-6, 3-3 in the Pacific League.

• LAST WEEK: Burroughs defeated Arcadia, 16-10; Burbank defeated Hoover, 52-14.

• LAST YEAR: The Indians defeated the Bulldogs, 24-6.

• OUTLOOK: The importance of the annual cross-town rivalry game is pretty cut and dry. Both teams need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive and hopefully earn the fourth-place spot in league. Crescenta Valley (5-4, 3-3) is also still in the mix. If the Falcons defeat Arcadia on Thursday, they could finish third and the Apaches would have a coin flip with the Burbank- Burroughs winner for the final spot. However, if CV loses, the winner of the Big Game would automatically get the postseason berth. Both the Bulldogs and Indians have been playing well as of late. With strong offenses, the game might come down to which squad has the better defensive effort, or which is able to take advantage of turnovers the other. Burbank has fine athletes in running backs Korey Turk and Justin Folk, receiver Eric Blatz and quarterback Kevin Hunter. Burroughs has been led by running backs Dominique Barnes and Victor Felix, receiver Chris Morris and quarterback Corey Howard.

• SOMETHING INTERESTING: There’s a pretty good bet the contest won’t end in a tie, as there has never been a stalemate in the history of the Big Game.
