Burbank resident honored for courage

Bradley Taylor, a 42-year-old Burbank city employee, was honored Nov. 8 at a luncheon and awards ceremony in Northridge by Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley for his bravery and good citizenship.

Taylor witnessed a display of domestic violence last year in November when he saw a man punching and shaking a woman inside a van in a Montrose parking lot.

Taylor called the police and followed the van until the authorities arrived. His testimony would later contribute to the man’s conviction of assault on multiple counts.

Along with several other citizens, Taylor received the Courageous Citizen Award at the event, which was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Northridge.

Santa program for seniors begins

The national nonprofit program, Be a Santa to a Senior, kicked off its 2007 gift donation campaign Monday, asking local residents to donate gifts for needy seniors this holiday season.

Until Dec. 12, shoppers can come into the Burbank Town Center, 201 E. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank; and Curves for Women, 1090 San Fernando Road, Burbank, and select ornaments from the “Be a Santa to a Senior” trees in those locations that will list the name of a senior and their gift requests.

Gift givers may leave the items under the tree along with the original ornament, unwrapped, for the senior of their choice. Volunteers will wrap the gifts at the end of the campaign.

A wrapping party is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Joslyn Senior Center, 1301 W. Olive Ave., Burbank. Deliveries of the gifts will be during the week of Dec. 17. For more information and to volunteer to wrap and deliver gifts, call Nancy Serpa at (818) 421-4829. For more information on the program, visit www.beasanta senior.com.
