Burbank Unified School District Board Of Education Meeting Preview

The following items are scheduled to be discussed at Thursday night’s Burbank Unified School District board meeting:

Deputy Supt. Joel Shapiro will lead the board’s recognition ceremony for the Burbank Elks Lodge No. 1497 for their donation of nearly 2,500 dictionaries to third- and fourth-grade students in all of the district’s elementary schools.

The chair of the Burbank Elks Lodge, Charlene Peale, will be introduced and will accept the recognition on behalf of the members of the Burbank Elks Lodge number 1497.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The board will take no action on this item. The lodge will be recognized by the district board members, and some members may say a few words.

Supt. Gregory Bowman will lead the board’s recognition of Marjorie Chesney, a retired Burbank Unified School District teacher, as the California Retired Teachers Assn.’s Retired Teachers Week honoree for 2007.

Chesney worked in the district as an elementary school teacher on several campuses for more than 37 years.

The California Retired Teachers Assn. honored retired teachers from Nov. 4 to 10 this year.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The board will take no action on this item. Chesney will be recognized by the district board, and some members may say a few words.

Senior Director of Facilities Craig Jellison will present the board members with information about the districtwide needs regarding facilities improvements and costs. The report goes over the district’s unmet facilities needs all across the district at all of its schools.

The total amount of money the district would require to address all the improvements and needs throughout the district is close to $40 million, according to the report to the board.

This is a report to the board. Members may ask questions regarding the document, but a vote will not be taken on approving the needs assessment.
