District providing staph information

The Burbank Unified School District has released information on its website, www.burbank.k12.ca.us, about how parents can prevent and recognize Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a highly resistant strain of staph infection transmitted on the skin.

Tips include washing hands frequently before and after athletics, after sneezing, coughing, blowing or touching the nose, after using toilets and before preparing food.

The information on the district’s website also provides a photo of what the infection can look like and where the most typically infected areas are.

People need to have direct skin-to-skin contact with someone infected or touch surfaces that have been infected with staph to contact it.
