Burbank City Council Meeting Wrap-up

November 24, 2007

The council unanimously adopted an extension to Burbank’s agreement with the city of Inglewood, which manages Burbank’s parking citation services.

Burbank has contracted the services out to Inglewood since 1997. The renewal agreement will bring with it some changes for residents, such as improved tracking devices for towed vehicles and a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week automated service for paying tickets over the phone.

WHAT IT MEANS

The agreement will last for three years and will cost the city more than $100,000.

VOTE: 5-0

The council heard from city staff about proposed changes to the 818 area code, which will result in either a split of 818 between San Fernando Valley neighborhoods or an overlay in which new numbers would take a 747 area code.

WHAT IT MEANS

The California Public Utilities Commission is expected to issue its decision by the middle of 2008.

NO VOTE

The council unanimously adopted the 2007 California Building and Fire Code.

There is one significant change to the code. In response to complaints from residents, city construction requiring a permit would be limited to Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. ending at 7 p.m. rather than 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and no work on Sundays or holidays.

An exception is built in for homeowners performing construction on their own residences, who would be allowed to work Sundays and holidays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHAT IT MEANS

The codes will go into effect Jan. 1.
