Burbank senior citizens eligible for free rides

The Burbank Transportation Management Office announced that Burbank seniors are eligible to receive up to four free one-way taxi rides anywhere in or within 3 miles of Burbank until Dec. 30.

“This free-to-Burbank- seniors service is provided as a holiday gift from the Burbank TMO as a way to reduce holiday driving, traffic and parking stress,” said the nonprofit’s executive director, J.J. Weston.

Threat of rain causes some park closures

Rain is expected to stay in the Burbank area this weekend, so the city is advising patrons of outdoor spaces to call ahead before making visits in case of weather-related closures.

Wildwood Canyon Park at Wildwood Canyon Road, Burbank, will be closed today and Sunday because of the weather. People planning on visiting the Stough Canyon Nature Center, 2300 Walnut Ave., and De Bell Golf Course, 1500 E. Walnut Ave., are advised to call ahead.

The Stough Canyon Nature Center can be reached at (818) 238-5440. The De Bell Golf Course can be reached at (818) 845-0022. Also, the Public Works Yard, 124 S. Lake St., will be offering sandbags from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until further notice. Sandbags will also be left outside the main gate. Call (818) 238-3800.
