Burbank gets first victory

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Burbank d. Marshall Fundamental, 25-11, 25-9, 25-14: The host Bulldogs won their first match of the season Monday with a nonleague match.

Burbank (1-1) was paced by Felix Alvarado, who tallied five kills. Teammate Tim Fischer and Paul Estagle had four kills each and George Briseno had three.

Burroughs d Providence, 27-25, 25-21, 25-22: The Indians won their second match against a local school Friday by downing the visiting Pioneers in a nonleague contest.

Josh Marbach, Chris Smith and Malcolm Collins had seven kills each for Burroughs (2-0). Marbach added 10 digs and four aces and Adam Camesa had 24 assists..

Andy Park and Jon DeClaro combined for 14 kills and Nico Pierson 18 assists for Providence (0-2).

Pasadena Poly d. Providence, 25-27, 26-24, 25-7, 15-25, 15-3: Karlo Arciaga had 23 assists and three aces and Andy Park had 11 kills and 10 digs for the Pioneers on Feb. 27 in their opener.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burroughs 9, Hoover 9 (84-84 on games, 10-6 Indians in super-tiebreaker): Burroughs survived the marathon match Thursday in a Pacific League opener on the road.

Freshman singles player Robert Henry swept his matches, 6-2. 6-3, 6-2, and won three in the super-tiebreaker, 7-5, 7-5, 7-2, to pace the Indians in their season opener.

The doubles team of Jay Chun and Andre Yanez swept, 7-5, 6-2, 6-1.

BASEBALL

Santa Clarita Christian 7, Providence 3: The Pioneers (0-2) couldn’t come away with the win Saturday in their Liberty League opener at The Master’s College.

Wildwood 10, Providence 4: Pioneers pitcher Chris Antablian had six strikeouts and no walks, Jake Johnson went two for three and Anthony Scott had a two-run triple Friday in a nonleague loss at Foy Park in the season opener for both teams.

Burbank in Southern California Invitational: The Bulldogs went 1-1 in their first two games of the event.

Burbank (1-1) defeated host Campbell Hall, 8-4, on Saturday and lost to Birmingham, 1-0, on Friday.

The Bulldogs could only manage two hits in Friday’s loss, as pitchers Ben Levitt and Anthony Giannelli combined to gave up just four hits.

Saturday, senior right-hander Justin Rivas pitched five innings to pick up the win, giving up one earned run while striking out seven and not walking a batter.

Victor Anaya had a double and two runs batted in.?

SOFTBALL

Burbank 9, Ontario Christian 0: The Bulldogs began their season in grand style Monday with a win in the first round of the San Dimas Tournament.

Burbank junior pitcher Kristin Peraza had 16 strikeouts.

Kassy Uchida was three for four with a triple and a run batted in, Daisy Beltran was two for four with a RBI and Melissa Sanchez was two for three with two stolen bases.

SWIMMING

Burbank vs. Valencia: The Bulldogs boys lost, 126 1/2 -42 1/2, and the girls fell 126 1/2-41 1/2, Friday in a nonleague meet.

Marc Anunta won the boys’ 50-yard freestyle (23.04 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (51.07) and Sara Puranan won the girls’ 50 freestyle (27.48) and 100 breaststroke (1:19.92) and Paula Moren was second in the 100 freestyle (1:00.48).
