Karagezian, the Pacific League champion, was a little sluggish in the early going of his second-round match. However, he did record a 7-6, 6-1 win against Joey Tresierras of San Gabriel.
In the second round, Karagezian ran into seeded player Clay Thompson, a sophomore. Karagezian played well but lost, 6-2, 6-3.
“[Thompson] is a very good player and Arthur did a good job against him,” Phan said. “But he was just too good.”
Karagezian just missed qualifying for the round of 16.
Burroughs sophomore Trevor Campbell won his first-round match, 6-0, 6-3.
However, in the second round, the Pacific League’s runner-up fell to No. 3 Austin Chafetz of Chadwick, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.
“Trevor played very well, and it was hot out there,” Burroughs Coach Roy Bernhardt said.
Campbell, last year’s All-Area Player of the Year, ends the season after helping lead Burroughs to a successful campaign.
The Indians won their first league championship in 23 years and advanced to the Division II quarterfinals.
Burroughs fell in the quarterfinals, 13-5, Tuesday against San Luis Obispo at home.
Like Campbell, Karagezian will be back next year for his junior season.
“I think that by next year Arthur should be able to make it to the round of 16,” Phan said. “The way he played, and the way he has been improving, I think he’s capable of that.”
Burbank failed to make it to the postseason after finishing fourth in the Pacific League.
