Theater Review:

‘Rapunzel’ befits young royalty

Directors Erin and Andrew Villverde have done the best thing they could possibly do for a children’s show — they’ve assembled a uniformly strong cast to work on a uniformly funny script. Songwriters Andrew Villaverde, Jeff Urband and Craig Sabin deserve high praise for keeping the musical numbers short and sweet, as befits the attention span of the average 5-year-old.

Special mention goes to the witch’s henchmen (Patrick McMahan and Michael Conoscenti) for their rendition of the “Evil Cheer,” done as two very upbeat cheerleaders — “Go Evil Go!”

When Jessica Elizabeth Mamey was a little girl, she went to the Glendale Centre Theatre to see their children’s shows and dreamed of being the princess. This year, she IS the Princess. The Glendale Centre Theatre’s core message is “Dreams Can Come True.” What more do you need to know?
