A tradition of fun

City’s Ponytail Softball players end the season with their traditional jamboree at Olive Park.

OLIVE PARK — The end of the season came last weekend for the members of the Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Ponytail Softball League.

However, although another season was laid to rest, it was all smiles and the fun was abundant Saturday at the annual jamboree at Olive Park.

Like their Hap Minor Baseball counterparts the week before, more than 700 softball players invaded the park for their traditional skills competition, food and refreshments.

The day began with a parade from the Burbank Towncenter Mall to Olive Park for the annual skills competition and awards ceremony. In the skills competition, players took part in four events — hitting for distance, throwing for accuracy, baserunning and throwing for distance — and won awards for their accomplishments.

Sponsored by the local Civitan organization, the end-of-the-year jamboree is a tradition for the local softball players, who participate in the longest-running league of its kind in the city.
