After receiving the go-ahead from Clinton, Ferguson and many other supporters of the New York senator cast their vote in favor of Obama as Democrats aim to unify their party following a bruising campaign season.

After the first roll call vote, held early Wednesday morning, Ferguson said: “There were still a lot of Clinton votes. But that doesn’t mean we’re not unified.”

“The first day was very divided,” he added. “Nobody was saying who they were pledged to. It was just one of those quiet things. Overall, people are respecting things. I’ve seen a lot of ‘Hillary supporters for Obama’ pins. Everybody’s coming around now.”

Ferguson, president of the Associated Students of Glendale Community College, returned Friday — a day after Obama spoke to more than 80,000 Democrats in Denver and an estimated 38 million viewers who watched on television, according to Nielsen Media Research.

“I finally saw him put on boxing gloves to another candidate besides Hillary Clinton,” Ferguson said of Obama’s forceful rebuke of many McCain positions.

“I think he responded very effectively, very thoughtfully and just really took him to task and held him accountable for his decisions. It was absolutely a great convention overall.”

Ferguson plans to work for the Obama campaign in the run-up to the Nov. 4 election by helping as needed during voter registration drives.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “I think a lot of Hillary delegates are going to go back home and support Obama like they did when they supported Hillary Clinton.”
