Moments of reflection bring with them questions that long to be answered. Sometimes our joy does not feel as spectacular as we would have imagined, and oftentimes our pain feels more magnified than we would ever have envisioned. Whether we rejoice or grieve, God knew where we would be at this exact moment today, even as we read this column.
It can be helpful to remember that God knew the date of our conception, the day we would take our first physical step and even the day we would reach milestones like marriage and children, if that is what God has for us. But God also knew the days we would grieve, the days we would accomplish what we thought impossible, and the days we would contemplate moments such as these.
Nothing is hidden from God’s view; nothing surprises Him. Perhaps our more painful moments cause us more reflection and prayer than our accomplishments, even when our accomplishments cause us to be grateful unto God. Pain has a way of doing that — it can stop you in your life path and cause you to wonder what went wrong. Is there sin in my life? Am I the victim of another’s sin or mistake? What am I to learn from this season? What is God doing? Is He building character? Endurance? Or simply giving me insight to eventually help others in need?
Psalm 139 tells us that God created our innermost being. And He did so with a purpose! It also tells us that every single event that we would go through in life was thought out and planned before it ever happened, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16). So does God know what we feel today? Did He know what we would go through that would bring us to this point?
Yes.
