State to take over Burbank courts

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 21 approved transferring operations of the Burbank Courthouse, and 13 other courthouses, to the state. The county’s title for the Burbank Court is expected to be transferred by Dec. 1, 2015.

The transfer of the courts is part of the Trial Court Facilities Act, which was established in 2002 to unify all courts throughout the state under the state’s responsibility.

Los Angeles County courts must transfer authority to the state’s Judicial Council of California by Dec. 31, 2009.

“The state has the authority of all of the courts,” Superior Court spokes- woman Patricia Kelly said.
