Man stabbed in home robbery

four arrested

December 15, 2008

A 52-year-old Burbank man was in stable condition Monday, hours after being stabbed in a home-invasion robbery that involved a high-speed pursuit through the northeast section of the city.

The robbery occurred at 1:50 a.m., when officers responded to the 2000 block of Monterey Avenue, Sgt. Travis Irving said. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. Two other people in the home — the victim’s father and another adult — were not injured.

Three men and a female driver were spotted in a silver car, armed with handguns and knives, Irving said.

The car failed to stop when police tried to pull them over, setting off a high-speed chase through suburban Burbank, Irving said.

A 10-minute pursuit ensued as the suspects — driver Jacqueline Santiago, 30, of Pacoima; and her passengers, Brad Holland, 27, of North Hollywood; Alex Rojas, 32, of Sylmar; and Roberto de Santiago, 24, of San Fernando — evaded police at speeds of up to 50 mph, Irving said.

During the chase, one of the men fled the car on foot but was quickly apprehended, Irving said.

With the other three in the car, the chase ended at Glenoaks Boulevard and Amherst Drive after 2 a.m., when the driver and two passengers were arrested. One officer suffered moderate injuries when his car crashed during the pursuit.

Irving said the group may have specifically targeted the man, though police have not revealed a motive.

“The robbery was not random,” Irving said. “The victim and suspects know each other.”

The suspects were charged with attempted murder, and their bail is set at $1 million each.
