The district will make arrangements to help the city with the costs of the scoreboard and will likely contribute $4,500 to install it. No board vote was necessary to authorize a payment, Bowman said.

SUMMER SCHOOL AT MARYMOUNT

Marymount University will offer summer school classes to Burbank Unified students for about $490 a class, after the board approved an agreement for the service Thursday, Britz said.

The district cannot afford to offer any high school summer classes other than remedial and intervention courses for students who have received failing grades during the school year, Britz said.

Even the remedial summer courses may not be a sure thing this year because government support for them is still uncertain, as is support for elementary and middle school summer programs, she said.

The district had previously entered into similar contracts for summer school at Marymount, in 2006 and 2007, although in those years, the university offered programs for elementary and middle school students as well.
