Navy Seaman Recruit Shane C. Sigston, son of Natalie K. Burkhart of Burbank and Jeffery C. Sigston of Apache Junction, Ariz., completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Sigston completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.


Sigston is a 2005 graduate of John Burroughs High School.



Frances von Seggern Bach, the daughter of Helen von Seggern of Burbank, will perform with the Los Angeles Baroque Players when they present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Burbank First United Methodist Church, 700 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank. Tickets are $10.

A graduate of Burbank High School, von Seggern Bach began studying cello in fourth grade in the public school music program. She studied with Joseph DiTullio of Glendale, earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Whittier College, and after graduation, played in the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in Canada for three years.

She later taught at Whittier College and earned her masters in cello performance at Cal State Northridge.

She is a substitute cellist in the Utah Symphony Orchestra and is also a freelance musician.

She and her husband, Phil, live in Salt Lake City and have two daughters.
