Burbank Mayor Dave Golonski is expected to throw out the first pitch.

There will be an estimated 20 volunteers from the Burbank High Key Club on hand to help with the festivities.

The Little League will also unveil for the first time a sign at Brace Park designating the venue as Burbank Little League’s home field. There will also be signs honoring the softball and boys’ 9-10 baseball teams for their All-Star achievements last year.

Under the direction of this year’s president, Mike Lockheimer, the Little League has made an effort to increase participation in the organization.

The number of baseball teams has increased from 15 to 24 squads and the softball program went from one Junior mixed team to one Major and one Junior team.

The theme for this year is “community,” and the organization is giving back to Burbank. The Little League is changing its suppliers and the bank that it uses to only patronize businesses in Burbank.

In addition, the organization will also have a food drive for the Burbank Temporary Aid Center in order to teach the young athletes the rewards of being charitable.

Morejon sets school record at CSUN: Burroughs High graduate Lilyana Morejon has been enjoying a successful track and field season for the Cal State Northridge women’s team.

Morejon, who graduated in 2007, placed 13th in the 5,000 meters at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (combination of the Pacific-10 Conference and Big West Conference) Indoor Championship in Seattle Friday in 17 minutes, 6.47 seconds.

The time is a CSUN indoor school record. She also set the CSUN indoor record earlier in the season in the 3,000 with a time of 9:57.63.
