Film festival coming to Woodbury

The first Burbank International Film Festival will be from March 22 to 29 at Woodbury University, 7500 Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.

There will be an opening night inauguration ceremony and filmmaker press night, film screenings and seminars featuring industry professionals.

The closing ceremony and award show, on March 29, will feature a live performance of movie themes, composed by Academy Award-nominated film composer John Debney, as well as a live acoustic performance by multi-platinum vocalist Mark Slaughter (from the band Slaughter) and friends.

Nature day camps planned for break

The Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Department is offering spring break nature camps for children ages 6 to 10 years and ages 3 to 5 years.

Participants will learn about the Verdugo Mountains and what creatures live there by exploring and doing experiments.

The camp for 6- to 10-year-olds will be March 23, 25 and 27 and cost is $33. The camp for 3- to 5-year-olds will be March 24 and 26 and the cost is $27. Both camps are from 9 a.m. to noon at the Stough Canyon Nature Center, 2300 Walnut Ave., Burbank.

Day campers will receive a souvenir and participate in hikes, crafts and nature activities. A snack is provided daily. Registration materials are available at the nature center. Walk-in registration starts at 8 a.m. March 10 at the nature center. Call (818) 238-5440.
