Burroughs boys defeat Canyon

“There was a lot of pressure on my singles players because they couldn’t afford to lose any sets,” Burbank Coach Loi Phan said. “They did their job, and we haven’t lost any sets in singles so far this season.

“We knew that Flintridge Prep would be a dangerous team. It’s a good match for us with that kind of pressure.”

Burroughs 13, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 5: The Indians won their second straight match of the season Tuesday in notching the victory at the Braemer Country Club.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Canyon 90, Burbank 80: The Bulldogs had some fine results in dropping the nonleague meet Wednesday at home.

The Burbank 200-meter medley relay team Alex Lambert, Emin Gabramassihi, Nathan Jo and James Berman won (1 minute, 50.85 seconds), as did Berman in the 50 freestyle (23.98), Jo in the 100 butterfly (100.44), Alex Hulett in the 500 freestyle (5:41.19) and Gabramassihi in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.83).

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Canyon 127, Burbank 42: The Bulldogs weren’t able to win any events Wednesday in a nonleague meet at home.

BOYS’ GOLF

Pacific League Match No. 1: Burbank placed third and Burroughs was fourth in the event Thursday at Santa Anita Golf Course.

For the Bulldogs, Matt Kurihara shot a six-over-par 77, Kenny Cunanan had a 70, Jin Park and Daniel Chang had an 80s and Valen Russo had an 88.

For the Indians, John Bryan shot an 84, Josh Bailey had an 86, Chris Kesichasian and Taylor Conterars had 87s and Robert Symons had an 89.
