Top award for Water and Power for proficiency

Burbank Water and Power is among 60 of the nation’s 2,000-plus public power utilities to earn Reliable Public Power Provider, or RP3, recognition from the American Public Power Assn.

RP3 acknowledges public utilities exhibiting proficiency in four disciplines: reliability, safety, system improvement and workforce development.

The honor is given to public power utilities that provide consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe service.

“This recognition is a testament to our employees’ commitment to the Burbank community and to the quality of the work they provide every day,” said Greg Simay, Burbank Water and Power’s assistant general manager.

Burbank store donating prom dresses 20 girls

Unique Vintage, the online clothing retailer whose brick-and-mortar shop opened last year on Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, is donating 20 prom dresses to deserving girls across the nation, including 10 from Burbank.

To win the contest, dubbed Project Glamour Girl, participants had to write a 500-word essay explaining why they should be chosen as one of 20 glamour girls.

All essays were read and reviewed by a committee in Burbank, and the winners will be outfitted in a prom dress valued at about $150.
