“This was a great win for us,” Bell-Jeff Coach Hector Perez said. “Being only the second playoff win in school history is something special.”

The Guards (10-11) — the third-place team from the Santa Fe League — received fine games from Matt Landini and Martin Pinepo, who were both three for three.

Teammate Ryan Martinez hit a two-run home run and leadoff hitter Phillip Diaz reached base in all four of his at-bats.

Bell-Jeff got things started in grand fashion, scoring nine runs in the first inning. In the inning, the team sent 14 batters to the plate and had six hits.

Bell-Jeff added two runs in the second inning and five runs in the fourth inning.

The Guards will play a first-round game Thursday at Windward. The Wildcats (15-7) won the Delphic League championship.
