STUDENT ART PROJECT IS CREATING PAPER QUILTS

“Paper Quilts” was the theme of an art class series held in April and May at BCR “a place to grow,” a day program in Burbank for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

The series was directed by Laura Carolyn Marro, author and illustrator of children’s books, and the quilts were showcased in an Open House on May 12 at the BCR facility.

Fun and creative techniques were used in the classes, BCR officials said.

There were vegetable prints designed from templates of celery, endive, cauliflower and peppers stamped in ink on rice paper

Texture Rubbings were done with oil pastels rubbed on rice paper and placed over texture plates.

Album Quilts were made by using watercolor on mulberry rice paper, watercolor on coffee filters with rock salt and watercolor markers on rice paper.

The art program was funded by a grant from CVS Caremark/pharmacy.
