Girls’ volleyball camp offered next month

Female players wishing to improve their volleyball skills can do so at the Volleyball Players Camp.

The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13-17 and July 20-24 at Bellarmine-Jefferson High. The cost is $95 for one session or $175 for both sessions.

The camp is open to girls who will be in fourth-eighth grades in the fall.

Athletes will learn basic and advanced volleyball skills, including hitting, serving, setting, digging and blocking.

Athletes should wear appropriate sport clothing. A snack bar will also be open or athletes can bring their own liquids or snacks.

The camp is headed by Bell-Jeff graduates and coaches Miguel Segura and Debbie Segura-Mariscal, who have coached successful teams at St. Robert Bellarmine and Bell-Jeff.

The camps are run independently and are not associated with Bell-Jeff.

Arrowhead Club golf tourney planned

The Burroughs High Arrowhead Club is holding a fund-raising golf tournament Friday at De Bell Golf Club on the three-par course.

The event sponsors are still looking for tee and hole sponsors and encouraging all alumni to take part.

They are particularly looking for the class of 1980 (players from the 1979 team) to come out and celebrate the team’s 30th anniversary.

Individual and team play is available. There will be shotgun starts every 90 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and golfers can choose their starting time.

The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children under 18.

MVP youth basketball camp scheduled

Boys’ and girls’ basketball players who will be in fifth through eighth grades in September will get a chance to take part in the ninth annual MVP Summer Basketball Camp.

The camp, sponsored by the Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Department, will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 6-10 at Luther Burbank Middle School.

The cost is $80 and the camp is limited to 65 athletes. The deadline to register is June 29.

The event is run by longtime Park and Rec, Catholic Youth Organization, Southern California Municipal Athletic Assn. and high school Coach Mike Graceffo. Graceffo has more than 28 years coaching experience , and was an instructor at camps run by Michael Jordan and B.J. Armstrong.
