Budrick drives in run in all-star game: Burroughs High senior Katie Budrick did her part Tuesday in the San Fernando Valley Classic All-Star Game at Birmingham High.
Budrick, who played in the outfield and also caught, drove in her team’s only run in a 3-1 loss by the East squad against the West.
In the top of the third inning, Budrick grounded out, scoring a run to tie the score at 1.
Unfortunately for the East, it couldn’t score any more runs.
Budrick is a four-year standout for the Indians, and earned All-Pacific League first-team honors this past season.
Burroughs baseball players named to all-star team: Three Burroughs High baseball players have been invited to take part in an all-star game today at Birmingham High.
Senior pitcher Kyle Hart, senior shortstop Ray Palafox and senior first baseman A.J. Dupre will play in the City-CIF All-Star game at 6:30 p.m. There will be a home-run hitting contest prior to the game at 4:30.
The three players helped the Indians to a second-place finish in the Pacific League this past season. In addition, all three earned all-league honors.
Collard enjoys successful baseball season at Cal State Los Angeles: Former Burroughs High baseball Camron Collard had a productive junior season for the Golden Eagles.
Collard, a pitcher who graduated from Burroughs in 2005, played for the University of Nevada Reno in 2006 before playing for L.A. Pierce College in 2007 and 2008.
This past season, he had the lowest earned-run average on the team (3.71) and went 2-2 with 30 strikeouts and 13 walks in 34 innings.
Cal State L.A. went 32-17 and qualified for the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. Championship Tournament for the third time in four years. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles narrowly missed qualifying for an NCAA playoff berth.
The Golden Eagles entered the CCAA tournament as the No. 3 seed and were ranked fourth in the West Region. Cal State L.A. beat Cal State Dominguez Hills — the No. 5-ranked team in the region — 13-7, in an elimination game before being knocked out of the event by Sonoma State, 10-9.
Before returning to Cal State L.A. for his senior year, Collard plans to spend the summer playing for ex-big league Manager Mike Hargrove and the Liberal Kansas BeeJays, a National Baseball Conference semi-pro team.
