NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE CELEBRATED

The Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Department will host an event celebrating Native American heritage from noon to 3 p.m. June 28 at the Stough Canyon Nature Center, 2300 Walnut Ave., Burbank.

The event centers on Native American culture of the Verdugo Mountains and the Los Angeles area. The Tongva Nation Dancers from the Gabrielino/ Tongva Tribal Council will perform around 12:30 p.m.

In addition, there will be Native American foods, music and games. Participants will have an opportunity to learn how tools and baskets were made or take a nature walk to find out about different plants’ uses.

The event is free, but there is a fee for some food and crafts.

GRAND CENTRAL AIRPORT IS TOPIC

The Burbank Historical Society will present a video program titled “When Glendale Ruled the Sky” at 2 p.m. June 27 in the Cunningham Room of the Gordon R. Howard Museum, 1015 W. Olive Ave., Burbank.

The program relates the story of the Grand Central Airport in Glendale that was the main airport for Los Angeles from the 1920s through the 1930s.

The video was produced by Thom Eberhardt and features many celebrities of the era.

The program is free. Free parking is available at 1100 W. Clark Ave. For more information, visit www.burbankhistorical soc.com.

The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.

EMBLEM CLUB HAS FUNDRAISER

The Burbank Emblem Club #86 is having a charity fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bahia Corporales Mexican Restaurant, 3821 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.

Be sure to mention Emblem Club for credit, and takeout orders count as well.

Proceeds help to support the Emblem Club’s many local charities.

Some of those are scholarships for local high school students, The Salvation Army, Burbank Corps; Burbank Temporary Aid Center, Burbank Family Service Agency, Foothill Service Club for the Blind, Ronald McDonald House, Scholarships for Teachers of the Hearing Impaired, and the Hearing Dog Program.
