Bob Hope Airport currently has in place a voluntary nighttime curfew for commercial flights from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. to cut down on noise for surrounding residential and business communities. But the Part 161 Study seeks to put a mandatory curfew on all nighttime departures and landings from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The notice is at www.gpoaccess.gov under the Federal Register on “Page number 29530” in the appropriate box.
Bishop to break ground on center
Bishop Herald Wilkerson and Mayor Gary Bric will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday to kick off construction of a new community center at St. Finbar parish.
The planned community center includes a gym with basketball and volleyball courts, a performance stage and meeting rooms.
Under Father Albert Bahhuth, the church has experienced dramatic growth over the years, and now hosts a youth ministry made up of about 200 high school students. The new facility is expected to help the church meet those needs.
Amateur radio demonstration
The Burbank Emergency Amateur Radio Service, or BEARS, will be taking part in a local event for national Field Day on Saturday, in which radio operators will show off their emergency communication capabilities to the public. The volunteer group, which would be activated to assist public safety agencies in the event of a major disaster, will hold a demonstration from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Burbank Fire Training Center, 1845 N.
