GLENDALE — The Burbank All-Stars didn’t do themselves any favors in the first inning of their District 16 Major Softball Tournament championship game.

The locals committed three errors and allowed one walk, opening the door for Crescenta Valley, which was able to push across six runs before Burbank could record its first out.

However, undaunted by the early deficit, Burbank battled back, whittling away at the lead through the next three innings, while keeping Crescenta Valley from scoring any more runs.

The locals took the lead with a run in the fourth inning, and then tacked on another in the fifth, to complete the improbable 8-6 come-from-behind victory.

“We came out and we didn’t look good at all that first inning,” Burbank Coach Bruce DelCastillo said “We told them that they were going to have to go out and battle every inning, and that’s what they did.”

Burbank scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and three in the third to tie the score at 6.

Delaney Nicol led the way, going two for two. Ashley Linda, Bridgette Pisa, Ashton Akins and Davina DelCastillo had one hit and a run batted in each. Tori Talavera, Kayla Dighero and Rachel Bartamian had hits.

In the circle, Jade Teesel and DelCastillo combined on the effort.

The team will begin sectional play Thursday in Lancaster.
